Experimenting with Chalk

Fleur has become my little home away from home, a sweet haven where I can practice creative pursuits and get a kick-butt workout at the same time. I'm going to tell my sweet tales of my new little floral family in another post, because first I want to jump into some more personal details.

I've missed illustration. Honestly, it's a bit of a sore spot for me, and I've been trying to come to terms with it and deal in my own way. It took some time. Designing book covers definitely set me in the right direction...I got to explore a new side of illustration that I didn't know was in me. It is something I will always be grateful for, because it gave me my spark back and rekindled my desire to create beautiful work.

Fleur is now starting to play a role in my journey back. Hand-drawn type is always something that has intrigued me. Having spent the last five years designing book covers digitally, I've been itching for something more raw and tangible. Fleur gave me my canvas, in the form of chalkboards.

Here's a little sample of my experiments so far. I still have a long way to go, but it feels good to make progress. I'm going somewhere, doing something about the fear I've carried with me, and I recognize that as a huge step towards where I want to be.

I'll be posting here and there about my new friends, but you can view all of the pretty imagery on Instagram at refindjoy. Since Fleur has it's own blog, instagram and identity, I don't want to add a separate voice to the mix!
